LatiNew, The BrasiLatin Music Experience begins its second season presenting JP Jofre, backed by the New Asia Chamber Music Society. Mr. Jofre, a composer and bandoneon player born in San Juan, Argentina, is considered one of the foremost artists of contemporary New Tango. His works have been performed all over the world, and as a bandoneon soloist he has played with numerous symphonic orchestras, including Argentina's National and San Antonio's Symphony Orchestras and the Sacramento Philharmonic.
The New York Times has lauded JP Jofre as taking the bandoneon to "heavenly heights", and the Mercury News called him "electrifying bandoneon player and composer". Jofre's skills both as a composer and as a bandoneon soloist will be in full display at this LatiNew event.
The New Asia Chamber Music Society (NACMS) gave their sold out inaugural performance at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall in 2011, and have since then performed in New York City's major concert venues, bringing audiences exceptional performances of the chamber music repertoire drawn from the canon of western music as well as contemporary Asian culture. William Wei and Cindy Lin will be backing up JP Jofre in violin; Andy Lin will be playing viola and Nan-Cheng Chen cello.
JP Jofre and the New Asia Chamber Music Society will perform works by Mr. Jofre, Astor Piazzola, and Heitor Villa-Lobos. The BrasiLatin feel of the LatiNew series will be in clear view through the works of these Argentinean and Brazilian composers.
Preceding the main show, LatiNew invites you to join a free Happy Hour at Bar Thalia!
