Founded in 1998 by Artistic Director and choreographer Chris Elam, Misnomer Dance Theater creates contemporary dances about human relationships. Elam approaches dance both as a choreographer and ethnographer, which informs the technical and conceptual complexity of his choreography.

Named one of the "25 to Watch" for 2007 by Dance Magazine with a performance hailed as one of the top ten of 2006 by The New York Times, choreographer Chris Elam's Misnomer Dance Theater performs the world premiere of "Cellophane" plus four early works: "Maggie & George," "Fill in the Blank," "Tin Man," and their first piece, "Misnomer." The company features Jennifer Harmer, Coco Karol, Val Loukianovets, Jenny Campbell, Abbey Dehnert, and Chris Elam.
