Masks are required: everyone 2 years of age and older (except artists while performing) must wear a mask at all times while in the building.

Proof of full vaccination is required for certain events. Be sure to check the individual event pages for all shows you plan to attend.

Drawing from real life, students translate their idea into one or more mediums: dramatic dialogue, expressive movement, songs, and/or illustrations that, together, express the key moments and themes. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.


Ivy Austin
Education Artists Ivy Austin

Ivy Austin is best known for her work on NPR as the vocalist and comedienne from Garrison Keillor's, "A Prairie Home Companion." After graduating from Colgate with a degree in Biology, she toured with "They're Playing Our Song" and a few years later she made her Broadway debut, in the title role of "Raggedy Ann." She has recorded over one hundred songs with The Muppets on "Sesame Street," and is particularly effective with youth and theatre in the Global Arts: cultural literacy and heritage programs.

Madeline Cohen
Education Artists Madeline Cohen

Madeline Cohen, Symphony Space’s Education Director, has been working in the arts and arts education for over thirty five years at such institutions as the Lincoln Center Institute, the UFT, and Teachers College, among others. She has authored curriculum guides for the Metropolitan Opera Guild and the Nashville Institute for the Arts in Education. She is also a costume designer, receiving a B.A. from Brandeis University, and a M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Bill Cwikowski
Education Artists Bill Cwikowski

Bill Cwikowski has been an actor for 40 years, and is a founding member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre. He has worked extensively for EST in several capacities, including actor, writer, teacher, producer, dramaturg, and archivist. An actor of both stage and screen, he can be seen on numerous episodes of Law & Order. Mr. Cwikowski holds a B.A. in Speech and Drama from Monmouth College and an M.F.A in Acting from Smith College.

Tammy Hall
Education Artists Tammy Hall

Tammy Hall is a storyteller, visual artist, and advocate for literacy who has travelled across Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and Central America collecting folklore from the rich oral traditions of many cultures. A former New York City school teacher, Tammy leads storytelling, writing workshops, and visual arts residencies in New York City and across the country. A native of Clarksville, Tennessee, she draws on her African-American southern rural heritage to deliver remarkable tales at schools, churches, and cultural institutions.

Khris Lewin
Education Artists Khris Lewin

Khris Lewin is an actor and teaching artist who has performed at some of the country’s most respected regional theatres, including Marin Theatre Company, Goodspeed Opera House, Ogunquit Playhouse, Vineyard Playhouse, Nebraska Shakespeare, among others. Mr. Lewin holds a B.A. in Drama from Duke University and an M.F.A in Acting from the National Theatre Conservatory in Denver, CO. He is an SAFD certified and recommend actor-combatant.

Vickie Tanner
Education Artists Vickie Tanner

Vickie Tanner is a writer and actress of stage and screen. Vickie is part of the original American cast of the critically-acclaimed STOMP, in addition to joining the National and European tours of the production. She acted in the world premiere of TANTALUS, written by John Barton and directed by Ed Hall and Sir Peter Hall. She holds a B.F.A in Theatre from the California State University at Long Beach, and studied the Meisner technique with Maggie Flanigan in New York City.

Laurine Towler
Education Artists Laurine Towler

Laurine Towler is an actress and teaching artist who made her Broadway debut in Lettice and Loveage, starring Dame Maggie Smith. In addition to working on the New York and regional stages, Ms. Towler has appeared in several television shows including Law and Order: SVU, Louie, The Sopranos, St. Elsewhere, All My Children, and Daria. She received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and her M.F.A in Theatre from the University of California, San Diego.

Misha McGlown
Education Artists Misha Mcglown

Misha McGlown is a multifaceted artist, curator, and educator specializing in wearable art, jewelry design, painting, and metalwork – all of which showcase her deep interest in African culture and ancient civilizations. As a teaching artist, she has participated with Groundswell Mural Arts Project, Arts Horizons, and Manhattan Youth. She has been awarded artist grants by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Puffin Foundation, and Harlem Arts Alliance. Ms. McGlown was educated at Wayne State University and the Center for Creative Studies.

Rose Pearlman
Education Artists Rose Pearlman

Rose Pearlman is a painter and fiber artist who has exhibited her work in New York City and Vermont. She has been teaching art in public schools and facilitating art workshops in the New York City area for over 12 years. Classes have included print-making, weaving, painting, clay, sculpture, calligraphy, photography, and textile design. She holds a B.F.A in Photography from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Kevin Nathaniel Hylton
Education Artists Kevin Nathaniel Hylton

Kevin Nathaniel Hylton is a musician and composer who is the founding member of Spirit Ensemble, Heritage OP, Forestdance, and Kaleidhaphonic. He has produced 9 recordings, and can be heard on the Narada collection “African Voices” and the Ellipsis Arts release “African Dreams.” As a teaching artist, Mr. Hylton has presented workshops and lectures/demos at several venerated institutions, including Lincoln Center, Juilliard, University of Michigan, and Wesleyan University. He graduated cum laude with a B.F.A from Yale University.

Hadieh Afshani
Education Artists Hadieh Afshani

Hadieh Afshani is a visual artist based in New York City. Born and raised in Iran, Hadieh moved to Australia and lived there for 10 years before moving to the United States. Hadieh has taught various modes of visual art, graphic design, and animation at the Queensland College of Art at Griffith University in Brisbane. New to the Symphony Space Global Arts program, Hadieh specializes in afterschool programs, as well as the Picture This! Our Stories, Our Lives and Image-Based Inquiry: Political Cartoons, Posters, and Photojournalism series.
