Selected Shorts
Host Meg Wolitzer presents two works about love and marriage. In Amy Silverberg’s “Have You Met Husband?” two men and a dog vie for this title. The reader is Molly Bernard. And Mary Gordon’s “The Magician’s Wife” is a touching portrait of life-long devotion—a kind of magic itself. The reader is Jane Curtin.
Molly Bernard is most recognizable for her role as Lauren Heller on Younger. Additionally, she starred in and executive produced the indie film Milkwater, and has been featured in Hit Man, written and directed by Richard Linklater, the Amazon film Master opposite Regina Hall, the short films Kiss My Ass and A Nice Lady, the features Best Man Dead Man, Dreams in Nightmares, Damned If You Do, Sully, Pay It Forward, The Intern, Otherhood, and the television series Chicago Med, Transparent, Alpha House, High Maintenance, Blindspot, and The Black List. Bernard can currently be seen in Lone Star Bull and forthcoming in The Next Big One: A Comedy with Three Potential Problems.
Jane Curtin has appeared on Broadway in Noises Off, Candida, and Our Town. Her off-Broadway work includes Love Letters and the musical revue Pretzels, which she co-wrote. She starred in the television series 3rd Rock from the Sun and won back-to-back Emmy Awards for her role on Kate & Allie. She is an original cast member of Saturday Night Live and also starred in the television film series The Librarian and its spin-off, The Librarians. Her film credits include Coneheads; Antz; I Love You, Man; I Don’t Know How She Does It; The Heat; The Spy Who Dumped Me; Can You Ever Forgive Me?; Ode to Joy; Godmothered; Queen Bees; and Jules, opposite Sir Ben Kingsley. She starred on the television series Unforgettable and has had guest appearances on The Good Wife, 48 Hours ’til Monday, The Good Fight, Broad City, United We Fall, and Bupkis. Curtin can currently be seen on the Netflix mini-series The Residence and in the forthcoming film Back in Black.
Mary Gordon is a novelist, essayist, memoirist, literary critic, and was the McIntosh Professor of English at Barnard College until 2020. She is the author of many books, including Final Payments, Circling My Mother, Reading Jesus, The Shadow Man, The Company of Women, On Thomas Merton, Payback, and three collections of short fiction, including The Stories of Mary Gordon, which was awarded the Story Prize. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Lila Wallace–Reader's Digest Award, an O. Henry Award, and an Academy Award for Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In March 2008, Gordon was named the official New York State Author and awarded the Edith Wharton Citation of Merit for Fiction. She was inducted as a member of the inaugural class of the New York Writers Hall of Fame in 2010, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Amy Silverberg is a writer and comedian based in Los Angeles. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing & Literature from USC, where she currently teaches. Her fiction has appeared in Best American Short Stories, The Paris Review, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere. As a stand-up comedian, she has appeared on Comedy Central, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Her debut novel, First Time, Long Time, was published in 2025.
Meg Wolitzer is the New York Times bestselling author of The Female Persuasion, The Interestings, The Ten-Year Nap, The Position, and The Wife, among other novels. A musical of The Interestings is in development. Wolitzer was the guest editor of The Best American Short Stories 2017, and also writes books for young readers. She is a faculty member in the Creative Writing Program at Stony Brook University, where she co-founded and co-directs BookEnds, a yearlong intensive for emerging novelists.
