In “Pie Dance,” by Molly Giles, a divorcee balances a complicated family menage with the help of her dancing dog. Nixon read this story as part of Radio Love Fest, a production of WNYC and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, at BAM’s Harvey Theater.

Molly Giles has published four award-winning collections of stories: Rough Translations; Creek Walk; Bothered; and, most recently, All The Wrong Places. Her stories have been included in numerous anthologies including The O. Henry and the Pushcart Prize. She lives in California.

Cynthia Nixon, one of SHORTS’ regular hosts and readers, co-starred in “Sex and the City.” Her film appearances include “Amadeus,” “The Pelican Brief,” “James White,” and the forthcoming “A Quiet Passion,” in which she plays Emily Dickinson. Nixon’s extensive stage career includes performances in “The Real Thing,” “Hurlyburly, “Indiscretions,” “The Women,” and “Wit.” She won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for “Rabbit Hole.” In addition to “Sex and the City,” her television appearances include her portrayal of Eleanor Roosevelt in “Warm Springs,” an Emmy Award-winning appearance on “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “Too Big to Fail.” She plays Nancy Reagan in the upcoming television special “Killing Reagan.”

Maile Meloy often sets her wry and inconclusive love stories in her home state of Montana, but she has moved to Paris for her touching tale, “Madame Lazarus.” An elegant, aging Frenchman is no longer certain of his younger lover, but has complete faith in the love and loyalty of his self-willed terrier Cordelia.

Maile Meloy is the author of the novels Liars and Saints and A Family Daughter and the story collections Half in Love and Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It, which was named one of the Ten Best Books of 2009 by the New York Times Book Review. Her award-winning stories have been published in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Granta, and other publications. In 2007, she was chosen as one of Granta’s 21 Best Young American Novelists. She also lives in California.
