T25: A Quarter-Century of Tizmoret A Cappella

Description

Founded in 1996, Tizmoret celebrates its 26th year as Queens College Hillel’s professional Jewish a cappella group. Tizmoret draws singers from colleges throughout the New York City area and has taken Jewish collegiate a cappella to the next level, performing classic Jewish melodies, American pop music and contemporary Israeli tunes. They have produced eight albums, many of which are available for streaming. Tizmoret has performed for synagogues, college campuses, countless b’nei-mitzvah, and numerous music festivals across the United States. Tizmoret has a growing list of accolades: they won the 5th annual Long Island College A Cappella Challenge in 2010, and Kol HaOlam, (the National Jewish Collegiate A Cappella Competition) in 2011, 2012, and 2015. They performed in Italy at a New Year’s party, at the annual White House Hanukkah party in 2014 and in 2019, and at the Mayo Performing Arts Center as part of the famous Disney Dcapella!

The global pandemic may have halted live performance for a while, but it did not stop Tizmoret from bringing joy through song. They put together videos and virtual performances for those who were stuck inside and eventually braved the cold for some masked singing -- and in a particularly celebratory moment, all of Tizmoret past and present came together for "Tiz a Small World," a livestreamed concert filled with individual performances from members and alumni, spanning both continents and decades.

"T25: A Quarter-Century of Tizmoret A Cappella" will feature contemporary Jewish and secular a cappella songs performed in two concerts by the current group and Tizmoret alumni from the past twenty-five years.
