The Greek Cultural Center proudly presents a concert tribute to Thanos Mikroutsikos.
With over 40 albums and countless hit music over his 40 year musical career, Thanos Mikroutsikos became one from the main and critically acclaimed Greek composers. Introducing poetry as a source of inspiration and political protest, Thanos Mikroutiskos has composed a lot of songs based on poems by Greek & foreign poets, such as Euripides, Aristophanes, Constantine P. Cavafy, Giorgos Seferis, Yannis Ritsos, Odysseas Elytis and Nikos Kavvadias as well as Bertolt Brecht, Nazim Hikmet, Wolf Biermann and Maurice Maeterlinck. He has also written operas, symphonic music, chamber and music for the theatre and cinema. One of his most popular works was the album "Stauros Tou Notou" (Southern Cross), where he set to music of poems by Nikos Kavvadias. This album became one of biggest-selling albums in Greek music and his best-known work. He was appointed Minister of Culture in 1994 to 1996.
