Leonard Bernstein left us exactly 20 years ago, but his powerful legacy lives on. Renowned as one of the most significant musical and creative minds of the 20th Century, he is also legendary for his extreme passion and insatiable appetite for life. With this unique celebration, Symphony Space heralds the publication of Steve J. Sherman's major new book, "Leonard Bernstein at Work: His Final Years, 1984-1990," and presents an exclusive exhibition of photographs from that book in the Thalia Café.

The Celebration Concert will be hosted by WQXR's Robert Sherman with a special guest appearance by the three Bernstein children. Featured soloists will include Harolyn Blackwell and Jubilant Sykes, with Essential Voices USA conducted by music director Judith Clurman.  Legendary pianist Fred Hersch will also lend his talent to this spectacular evening.

Live performances of Bernstein's "Opening Prayer," and "A Simple Song" from Mass, "Make Our Garden Grow" from Candide and the complete "Chichester Psalms" will be followed by the movie event of the year -- a screening of the classic film, "West Side Story" as an audience sing-along, introduced by Marni Nixon, the voice of Maria! Dancing in the aisles is encouraged.
