Pianist Brendan Polk and saxophonist David Yee host tonight's jazz session at Bar Thalia.
Brendan Polk is originally from Savannah, Georgia. He started playing classical piano at the age of 4 and became fascinated with the world of jazz at age 12 when he first listened to the music of Erroll Garner. In high school Brendan began playing professionally around the Southeast United States and then went on to study jazz performance at Florida State University. Named “Outstanding Jazz Performer” by Downbeat, Brendan has performed with renowned jazz musicians such as Sonny Fortune, Sean Jones, Quentin Baxter, Delbert Felix, Ben Tucker, Jason Marsalis, and Leon Anderson. He has performed at various venues and festivals including Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Telluride Jazz Festival, Savannah Jazz Festival, and the Performing Arts Exchange in Miami.
Originally from San Jose, California, David Yee studied music at the University of Portland in Oregon. Since moving to NYC in 2015 he has performed with various jazz, rock, pop, funk, and R&B artists as well as his own groups at venues including B.B. Kings, The Bitter End, Silvana, Shrine, The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, Ginny's Supper Club, Gin Fizz, Rockwood Music Hall, Groove, Caffe Vivaldi, Arlene's Grocery, Columbia University, The Exit Zero Jazz Festival in Cape May, NJ, Brooklyn Bazaar, The Montauk Club, DROM, Club Macanudo, Mercury Lounge, and The Louis Armstrong House.
Tonight the duo will perform one set of music and then invite vocalists and instrumentalists to sit in and perform with them. Please join us in this wonderful night of music!
