In this program, students explore how African art relates to the environment, as well as to social, ceremonial, and economic life. Teaching artists inspire students to use their imaginations and observational skills to engage with unfamiliar art. In this two-workshop series, students discover the significance of symbols and patterns in African art, while making masks or Kente cloth of their own. Schools can also opt to take an artist-guided tour of a New York City museum, offering students first-hand experience with African art.
