Students interpret what today’s styles, t-shirts, sneakers, and logos communicate about the wearer’s status, lifestyle, and interests.  This analysis is then applied to the fashions of previous centuries.  Through this parallel, students understand—with examples such as George Washington—how the concept of being “cool” was as relevant in the 18th century as it is today, in the 21st century.

Madeline Cohen

Madeline Cohen, Symphony Space’s Education Director has been working in the arts and arts education for over thirty five years at such institutions as the Lincoln Center Institute, the UFT, and Teachers College, among others. She has authored curriculum guides for the Metropolitan Opera Guild and the Nashville Institute for the Arts in Education. She is also a costume designer, receiving a BA from Brandeis University, and a MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

D’Ambrose Boyd -As a performer has shared the stage with such luminaries as Eartha Kitt, Mickey Rooney, Brenda Braxton, Ken Page, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Frank Langella, to name a few. He has been on the boards of many Broadway, off-Broadway, Regional and European theaters. He can be heard on many cast recordings and voice-overs for NICKELODEON. He has worked with Symphony Space as an educating artist for over 12 years.
