Advocates for Justice Fall Awards Ceremony

Join honorary host Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and the non-profit public interest law firm Advocates for Justice for the 2012 Fall Awards Ceremony honoring outstanding community advocates and saluting public education and its champions.
There will be special performances, including "Shakespeare on Justice" by actor Geoffrey Owens ("Elvin," The Cosby Show), spoken word artist and slam poet LaTonia Phipps, and the Herve Alexandre Jazz Quartet.
Lifetime of Leadership Awards will be presented to U.S. Congressmember Nydia Velazquez, 9/11 First Responder Mike Kenny, and NY Communities for Change leader Jon Kest.
Extraordinary Advocates for Children will be honored:
Leonie Haimson - Founder & Executive Director of Class Size Matters; Mona Davids - Founder & President of the NYC Parents Union; the Southside Community Schools Coalition of Williamsburg, Brooklyn; the Save Our Schools Coalition - East Ramapo (Rockland County); and the Parent-Teacher Organization of Peninsula Preparatory Academy in Rockaway, Queens.
The 2012 Fall Awards Ceremony is a benefit presented by Executive Director Chris Owens and members of the Advocates for Justice Board of Directors: Matthew Chachere, Cate Edwards, Bertha Lewis, Suzanne Mattei, Hon. Major R. Owens, Mark Rosenthal, John Samuelsen, Arthur Z. Schwartz, Hon. Peggy Shepard, Tom Shanahan, and Marvin Wasserman.
