Manhattan Film Festival: Comedic Short Program

(Past) Fri, Jul 23 at 5:30 pm
Leonard Nimoy Thalia
$10; Students, Seniors $8; Members $6; Day of Show $12

Independent Features was founded by two independent filmmakers who learned first hand how hard it is to find an independent film an audience. The company pioneered the Manhattan Film Festival which allows filmmakers to choose their preferred selection process: participation in their signature web-based competition or review by the festivals programming team.

Radius Squared Times Heart (USA) 33m

Despite Ken's brilliant talent of Mathematics, scientific observation, and Culinary art, one thing he hasn't comprehended is women.

He has met a beautiful graduate student Anthropologist, Michelle, at a Tango lesson and struck by a thunderbolt.

With Tim's help, his best friend since his childhood, he is walking into the undiscovered frontier, 'Three inches and quarter closer to a woman.'

Kilo 38m (USA)

Police officer Min Lee is tired of being underutilized in the department and underestimated as an officer. When she gets a chance to work one undercover shift, she jumps on it, eager to prove herself. Her instincts pay off, when she and her partner, Juan Gordo catch a dealer with a kilo of cocaine. But the arrest crumbles when Min loses the kilo during the foot chase. Desperate not to go back to the station empty-handed, Min makes a deal with her arrestee, Kevin. If Kevin can buy her another kilo, she'll arrest his supplier and let him go. But when the deal goes sideways, Min is forced to choose between becoming the laughing stock, and doing the 'right' thing.

Masculinity (USA) 12m

Masculinity is a story about insecurity and assumed identity. Two friends, Danny and Jason, try to embrace their identities while confronting the stereotypes that define them. Danny attempts to alter his effeminate ways and man up, while Jason channels his inner thug and poses as a drug dealer.

The New, True, Charlie Wu (USA) 33m

Charlie Wu has been an accountant for years, stuck in a job he hates, a job that's sucking away his soul. He knows he should leave and go for his dream job, but he just can't -- or won't -- quit. If he leaves his good paying job, he fears his parents and friends will think he's a stupid failure -- and he knows he could fail! So, Charlie waits and stews as the seasons pass, content with shoving money into the hole in his heart. One night Charlie has a vision where he meets Eudaimonia, the Queen of his Soul. She whispers: 'Be somebody else before you're thirty,' and launches Charlie on a wild, funny, touching, and ultimately life changing dream.

For anyone who's got a little lost on their life's journey; for anyone who's struggled with the question, "Should I do what I love, or do I do what makes me money, even if I hate it?'; for anyone who's ever postponed their dream, 'The New, True, Charlie Wu' is for you!
