TeatroStageFest in Association with Symphony Space presents Caleidoscopio Teatro's production of Open Sesame! ¡Ábrete Sésamo!
Meet Granny María Babel and her cat, Blackie! Granny knits letters that dance on a tight wire and waters a potted plant that grows numbers instead of leaves. Then, once upon a time ... a little boy who was excited to get a video game or a skate board on his birthday, throws a temper tantrum when the gift turns out to be a book. "Open Sesame...!" and the boy is swept into a Magical Realistic world that springs forth from the pages of the book. Children in the audience will embark on the adventure of a lifetime in this lyrical and whimsical visual production that features interactive large-format puppets in black-light and catchy music. For children 4+ years and families. U.S. Premiere.
"Abrete Sesamo has a pedagogical message. The play's main character, a kid, lives a thousand adventures as he goes to outer space or under the sea. He learns the letters and gets to know new animals thanks to the book." –Maria José Brezo, La República
"Simple and beautiful. Elaborate visual poetry that thrills children into loving two things that they might easily hate early on: numbers and letters". –Fernandez Antón, Noticias Teatrales
Co-produced by the Ministry of Culture of Spain-INAEM, Contributing Sponsor, and the Government of Aragón and Instituto Cervantes, Cultural Partners.
June 28th performance hosted by NY1 and NY1 Noticias.
Additional support by the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
