Eudora Welty: A Tribute in Stories
A part of the series Selected Shorts: A Celebration of the Short Story.

Ann Patchett and Welty biographer and friend Suzanne Marrs pay tribute to Eudora Welty (1909-2001), sharing thoughts on her work and introducing actors to read some of her lesser-known gems. During her lifetime, most of which she spent in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, Welty published such beloved stories as "Why I Live at the P.O." and "The Petrified Man" in collections including A Curtain of Green, The Wide Net and The Golden Apples. She won the Pulitzer Prize for her 1972 novel The Optimist’s Daughter. "I try," Eudora Welty writes, "to enter the mind, heart, and skin of a human being who is not myself. Whether this happens to be a man or a woman, old or young, with skin black or white, the primary challenge lies in making the jump itself. It is the act of a writer's imagination I set most high." Marian Seldes, Sloane Shelton and Kathryn Markey will perform “Lily Daw and the Three Ladies,” “The Key” and “A Piece of News.”
