Stories from The Pushcart Prize
A part of the series Selected Shorts: A Celebration of the Short Story.
To celebrate Small Press month, Selected Shorts presents a night of stories mined from the anthologies of The Pushcart Prize, the honored series that has featured the best stories, poems, essays and “literary whatnot” from hundreds of small presses for 32 years and counting. Winner of the 2006 National Book Critics Circle Lifetime Achievement Award, the annual Prize anthology has helped to foster the careers of Raymond Carver, Charles Baxter, Rosellen Brown, John Irving, Ha Jin, Mary Karr, Susan Minot, Rick Moody and Mona Simpson, among others. Bill Henderson, tireless founder of the Pushcart Press and editor of the Prize series, gives introductions. “When it comes to contemporary American literature, the small press is where the action is… Of all the anthologies, Pushcart’s is the most rewarding to read straight through” (The Chicago Tribune). Alec
Baldwin, Khris Lewin and others perform stories by Steven Millhauser, Stuart Dybek and Andrew Porter.
