Description

The Acting Company & Play On Shakespeare present

TIMON OF ATHENS

Written by William Shakespeare
in a modern verse translation by Kenneth Cavander
Directed by Kate Pitt

An often-overlooked Shakespearean text, TIMON OF ATHENS is a darkly complex story of an Athenian nobleman who transforms from popular host and generous patron to a misanthropic recluse when his “fair weather friends” take his kindness for granted.

LOUANNA O. CARLIN & JOHN MCDONALD READING SERIES

The Acting Company's 2025-2026 Louanna O. Carlin and John McDonald Reading Series continues with TIMON OF ATHENS. Producing Artistic Director Devin Brain selected these titles around the theme “Deep Cuts and New Perspectives” and we are thrilled to share works in collaboration with alumni artists for our growing creative community. We prioritize producible classic scripts and nuanced literary adaptations, give them a swift review to capture some of our most experienced Company members’ initial impulses, and get them in front of an audience of patrons and practitioners to gather feedback from everyone involved.

    THE ACTING COMPANY

The Acting Company develops actors by touring professional theater across the country. Founded in 1972 by legendary performer-producers John Houseman and Margot Harley, we have helped launch the careers of more than 400 actors, including Kelley Curran, Keith David, Harriet Harris, Kevin Kline, Hamish Linklater, Patti LuPone, Jesse L. Martin, Roslyn Ruff, Lorraine Toussaint, Rainn Wilson, and Jeffrey Wright. The Acting Company has produced over 150 plays in 48 states and 10 countries for over 4 million people. Among the many acknowledgements of our performances, we received a 2003 Tony honor for Excellence in the Theater and our production of Nambi E. Kelley’s NATIVE SON directed by Seret Scott won the 2019 Audelco Award for Best Play.
