Description
The Remission Film Festival is a new festival - the first of its kind - focusing on creators who are shedding light on the experience of life before, during, & after cancer. This premier event is benefiting Blood Cancer United (formerly Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) as a fundraisier for those impacted by cancer.
Remission will be showcasing works focusing on the sometimes secret corners of survivorship and patienthood that massively - albeit silently - disrupt our lives. As cancer rates in young people skyrocket, funding for cancer research and other resources are evaporating, and healthcare and surrounding legislation is making it more difficult to seek out necessary treatments and aftercare resources, it is more important now more than ever to highlight the need for resources to compensate where aid is lacking.
Edward Miskie, the 13-year rare Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor behind the festival, and author of the book 'Cancer, Musical Theatre, & Other Chronic Illnesses' has been a vocal advocate for cancer survivors in their journey out of the hospital and back into 'normal' life - whatever that means. Organizations like Blood Cancer United affected his move from cancer patient to survivor and believes wholeheartedly in the impact we can make in individuals lives.
