Seminar on Die Meistersinger

The Wagner Society of New York, in its popular seminar series, presents an in-depth look at a Wagner opera in the Metropolitan Opera's current repertoire. This season: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Wagner's only comic opera, based on a historical story. The Seminar will feature dynamic speakers, plus two roundtables: Met Cast members and Met Orchestra members. Victoria Bond, a composer and conductor, will be the moderator and will host the roundtables. She will also discuss (with a DVD) a rare 1840 opera by Albert Lortzing on Hans Sachs, Die Meistersinger's central figure. Jeffrey Swann, internationally renowned pianist, will speak on "Dynamic Tension in Die Meistersinger," with piano illustrations. It will be presented both live and livestream.
