Description
Open Secrets Live is a personal storytelling summit featuring acclaimed essayists, memoirists, and storytellers discussing how and why they bare their souls in their work, with a keynote talk by comedian and podcast host Youngmi Mayer, author of memoir I'm Laughing Because I'm Crying, and a keynote conversation between Emmy Award-winning actor and author of bestselling memoir Actress of a Certain Age Jeff Hiller and celebrated drag king and actor Murray Hill, author of forthcoming memoir Showbiz, who both star on HBO drama Somebody Somewhere.
Panels on relationships, family, identity, LGBTQIA life, mental health, and physical health will explore how to write about these topics sensitively and successfully, along with an editors panel on how to get your personal essays and memoirs published featuring editors from Abrams Books, Catapult, One Signal/Atria (Simon & Schuster imprint), Tiny Reparations Books, The New York Times' Modern Love and Tiny Love Stories columns, and Slate.
Kew & Willow Books will have memoirs by our speakers for sale. Attendees will receive a free swag bag. There will be a break for lunch in the afternoon (lunch not provided).
Option to purchase add-on attendance at afterparty at Bar Thalia (limited spots available). Open Secrets Live is a production of online literary magazine Open Secrets (opensecretsmagazine.com).
