New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra

Description

For its spring concert, the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra welcomes conductor Georgia Mills, an adjunct professor of orchestration at Roberts Wesleyan University, who holds graduate teaching awards in conducting and music theory at the Eastman School of Music. Mills recently conducted the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in a program of dynamic works by Stravinsky, Bernstein, Copland, and Mozart.

The concert will open with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466, featuring pianist Jonathan Mamora, who has performed throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Mamora is a prize-winner of numerous piano competitions, most recently winning first prize in the Scottish International Piano Competition. The program will conclude with Beethoven’s groundbreaking Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”), which caused a sensation when it debuted, as it was longer and grander than any previous symphony. Beethoven said that the Eroica was his favorite symphony, and it was ranked No. 1 in a BBC Music Magazine survey of 151 conductors across the world.
