An Evening of Fandango & Afro Latin Jazz

Description

Setting the tone for the annual celebration of CINCO DE MAYO, join us in this special performance at Symphony Space, where we will celebrate Mexico and its rich musical tradition through "An Evening of Fandango & Afro Latin Jazz" featuring highlights from the diverse and dynamic repertoire of the critically-acclaimed album Fandango at the Wall - A Soundtrack for the United States, Mexico, and Beyond, by Arturo O'Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, recorded live at the US-Mexico border, and featuring more than 60 artists from around the world.

In this special performance, Arturo and the ALJO welcome leading Son Jarocho artists from Veracruz organized by Fandango Fronterizo founder Jorge Francisco Castillo, The Villalobos Brothers, Rahim AlHaj (Iraq), Sahba Motallebi (Iran) and other noted guests to present an exciting live version of the project.

Kabir Sehgal is the executive producer of the project and author of Fandango at the Wall: Creating Harmony Between the United States and Mexico, a book on the history of US-Mexico relations.

"An Evening of Fandango & Afro Latin Jazz" will be filmed and featured in the documentary Fandango at the Wall.
