Columbia University Orchestra

Description

Founded by composer Edward MacDowell in 1896, the Columbia University Orchestra is the oldest continually operating university orchestra in the United States. The principal mission of the Orchestra is to expose talented student musicians to the highest level of orchestral repertoire.

The CUO will perform an exciting program on its return to Symphony Space. Ruth Crawford Seeger’s futuristic Andante for Strings comes from her very famous String Quartet. Two monumental works by the Hungarian composer Bela Bartok will be performed-Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, and ending with his Concert for Orchestra.
