Project Shaw: The Doctor's Dilemma

The Doctor’s Dilemma was Shaw’s 1906 challenge of Art verus Science. In this highly entertaining play, Jennifer Dubedat idolizes her artist husband, Louis, who is dying. She goes to the renowned doctor,Sir Colenso, who has just invented a revolutionary cure to convince him that Louis’ artistic talents make him worthy of saving. The doctor only has enough serum to treat one more patient and must choose between another noble doctor or the artist. Louis turns out to be a roguish scoundrel. In addition, the good doctor may have fallen in love with Jennifer. So, kill or cure? Shaw takes on the medical profession with his usual razor-sharp and uncompromising wit.

"Gingold Theatrical Group provides an invaluable -- and unique -- service to New Yorkers. Not only does it keep topnotch productions of great works of art before the public on a regular basis as no other theater company can, but it also does something less obvious. It keeps the tradition of intelligent argument, embodied in Shaw's plays but otherwise much lacking from public discourse, alive for those who need it most: the thinking people of a great city."
