MJ Territo is a jazz vocalist, music educator, composer and lyricist. She performs with her trio/quartet in venues throughout the tri-state region. MJ is also the founder of the Ladies Day Jazz Ensemble, a group of women jazz musicians dedicated to discovering and performing the compositions of classic and contemporary jazz women.

The daughter of a piano teacher, MJ grew up surrounded by the Great American Songbook as well as by lots of classical music. She discovered jazz as a teenage dance student at a summer camp that also had a jazz program, and has been hooked ever since. She loves singing and writing lyrics to jazz heads; delights in discovering lesser-known gems from the composers of the Great American Songbook; and also draws material from folk, pop, rock, and world music.

MJ can be heard on her independently released CD Down With Love, ten tunes that are not about romantic love, as well as on Along The Path, a Metropolitan Records 2015 release of the music of pianist and composer Linda Presgrave, which features “The Bird of Ceret”, for which MJ wrote the lyrics. MJ’s latest CD, Ladies Day, will be released in May 2017.
