This Latin Grammy nominee, at the center of the Música Popular Brasileira scene, made his New York début at Symphony Space in 2009. Jair Oliveira now returns for a rare NYC concert, playing his own work as well as popular Brazilian classics.
Songwriter, musician, singer, arranger, producer, and actor Jair Oliveira has been a well-known artistic Brazilian figure since the beginning of the 1980s, when he started his career at the age of six through his father’s incentives (singer/samba star Jair Rodrigues). During his childhood, Oliveira was also part of one of the greatest and most successful kids group in Brazil, Turma do Balão Mágico. Committed to the musical tradition that runs in his family—his sister Luciana Mello is also a well-known Brazilian singer—Oliveira has always sought to improve his musical talents and, in 1997, received his degrees in Music Production and Music Business, graduating with honors from renowned school Berklee College of Music. Returning to Brazil, he established the production company S de Samba with two partners (sdesamba.com.br) and it became one of the most important houses of audio production in the country. As a producer, he directed many works with artists such as Jair Rodrigues, MPB4, Pedro Mariano, Ed Motta, Wilson Simoninha, and Tom Zé. Now with more than 35 years of experience in the music industry, Jair Oliveira is considered one of the most important songwriters and producers of his generation and has proven to be an outstanding artist in the fields of music, cinema, theatre, television, and advertising in Brazil and abroad. jairoliveira.com.br
