40th Anniversary Season Finale
We are overjoyed to have Conductor Teresa Cheung (Music Director, Altoona Symphony Orchestra) return to NASO for this gala anniversary season finale. We are also proud to have joined the New York Philharmonic's New World Initiative (NWI) in co-celebration of their 175th anniversary season. This community outreach project evolved from their 1893 world première of Dvorak's Symphony No 9, From the New World - the first major work composed in New York to gain enduring popularity. By encouraging city-wide community performances of music from, or based on, the New World Symphony, the Philharmonic is recognizing the vibrancy of the extended New York music community. The Largo ("Goin' Home" ) movement opens this concert, followed by the hauntingly beautiful Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss with featured soprano Jennifer Grimaldi who is well known to New York audiences having appeared with many opera companies, festivals and orchestras in the region. The first NASO performance in over 20 years of Respighi's thrilling Pines of Rome concludes this very special season and showcases the many talented members of our orchestra. Please join our celebration!
