Troy Rinker, double bass
Yvonne Troxler, piano

In the opening concert of Glass Farm Ensemble's 2016-2017 season will include two world premieres and two US premieres. The title piece Feuerfleck (Sun Flare) is two songs by Yvonne Troxler for low voice and piano based on poems by Fernando Pessoa's alter ego Alberto Caeiro. The second premiere is Paula Matthusen's InsFrischeSegensspruch, a meditation on songs from Robert Schumann's Frauenliebe und -leben. The largest ensemble work on the program, by the German composer Enjott Schneider, is for piano quintet and low voice. The three movements are reflections on songs by Franz Schubert. We will also perform the three Schubert songs in their original setting for voice and piano. Also on the program is Kaija Saariaho's Light and Matter for piano trio, as well as the solo piano piece very close...unsaid by Swiss composer Luigi Laveglia. Another work by a Swiss composer is Roland Mosers An Anecdote, a Poem and a Scene, which is purely conceptual and will be performed throughout the whole season. On each concert, a different member of the ensemble will be presenting his or her own view of the work.
