In a program featuring Austrian composers from yesterday and today, the New York Piano Quartet performs the magnificent one-movement virtuosic "Rhapsodie" by Joseph Marx (a work, of which in 2010 the New York Piano Quartet gave the American premiere), paired with Korngold's monumental Suite Op. 23 for piano left hand and strings, as well as with Gernot Wolfgang's jazzy 2011 "From Vienna with Love", which was dedicated to, and premiered and recorded by the New York Piano Quartet - this work represents a completion of the unfinished sketch for a second movement of Mahler's own 1879 piano quartet. (The group has a long-standing relationship with composer Gernot Wolfgang and has performed his works every year since 2009 at the New York Chamber Music Festival.) All the works on this program have been recently recorded by the Urlicht Audiovisual label for 2 separate CDs.
