Independent Features was founded by two independent filmmakers who learned first hand how hard it is to find an independent film an audience. The company pioneered the Manhattan Film Festival which allows filmmakers to choose their preferred selection process: participation in their signature web-based competition or review by the festivals programming team.
The Things We Carry (Drama) (USA) 77m
The Things We Carry, a personal story, marks the debut of the Lobit Sisters (Athena, Producer; Alyssa, writer & actress). When her drug-addict mother dies, Emmie returns home, traveling through the underbelly of suburbia looking for a package her mother has left behind, reconnecting with her estranged sister, Eve, along the way. Set in the San Fernando Valley, against the dirty backdrop of seedy motels and forgotten flowers, the sisters come to peace with themselves, their mother, and each other about their different approaches to life.
A Fork in the Road (Short) (USA) 10m
Virgil, a man in his mid-forties, feels that he's let his two children, Sophie, 13, Chris, 17, and wife, Maggie, down when his business collapses and the collectors start calling. He concludes that his family is better off without him and, thus, decides to end his life by way running his Lincoln in the families' garage with the door closed. Unexpectedly, however, Chris comes home early, discovers his semi-unconscious father in the car and saves Virgil's life. Afterwards, Virgil tries to avert the uncomfortable truth by taking his son to a diner, only to find out that Chris is tired of skirting the issue and playing pretend. Will they find the true meaning of life, family and success amidst stale coffee and fried eggs?
