Holding the Torch for Liberty, the jazz musical by Eli Yamin and Clifford Carlson tells the story of the culmination of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States one hundred years ago. Through ragtime, classic blues, New Orleans and Cuban infused original music, Holding the Torch for Liberty traces how courageous working women joined forces to fight for and win final passage of the 19th Amendment. This concert is produced by Jazz Power Initiative, a NYC-based non-profit organization transforming lives through jazz arts education and performance and will benefit its youth and community programs. The cast for this concert will be a mixture of Zah!, Jazz Power Initiative's young professional ensemble and professional dancers and musicians led by Eli Yamin, pianist and musical director and choreographer Shireen Dickson.
