The writer of some of Martin Scorsese’s best films  (Taxi Driver and Raging Bull) and director of films including American Gigolo and Auto  Focus, Schrader chooses his favorite films and personal inspirations for a  unique Thalia series that also includes seven of his own films. After making  his selections, Schrader realized “all the films had  something in common: they were cold on the outside and hot inside. Cool styles,  hot themes.  Ice boxes, glowing, lit by  internal fires. I hadn’t planned it that way, but if those were the films that  came to mind, perhaps those were the films I myself had tried to make.”
