Symphony Space strives to produce commercial quality recordings at a value the client can afford. Our engineers will record any performance in High Definition using the most advanced microphones and microphone techniques available while respecting the live aspect of the performance, so as not to intrude on the audience.
In many ways, faithfully recording a live concert presents the ultimate challenge to a sound engineer - capturing the excitement of a live event while maintaining the high sound quality demanded by a listening public that is used to carefully controlled studio recordings. Many common recordings are made from the audience using a pair of microphones monitored by someone in the hall. This can cause problems with the final outcome due to the fact that the microphones are some distance from the musicians on stage, often causing a hollow sound to the recording. With each class of recording Symphony Space offers, our clients get an up-close sound recorded by a professional engineer using True RED microphone pre amps and Avid Pro Tools recording software. Clients then receive a Stereo Master CD-R of broadcast quality as the final product.
Our on-site recording studio allows for the recording to be monitored in a dedicated and isolated listening environment, designed to maximize the engineer's ability to assess the sound of the recording and bring to the client a polished final product.
Symphony Space offers 3 Classes of recording outlined below
Class 1 - Stereo recording straight to CD - $675, includes use of recording studio and 1 engineer for up to 10 hours, additional time at $100 per hour
Using stereo recording techniques pioneered by engineers at the BBC and Decca Records we aim to give the client a stereo recording of their concert using up to 4 mics in the hall, combined with the live sound mix, if available. Our engineer will come in early to set levels and make sure the sound is of commercial quality and mix the entire show straight to CD as it occurs.
Post performance the client will receive the following
- Master CD-r containing that evening's performance
- USB Flash drive containing High Definition digital files
Class 2 - Multi track recording straight to CD - $1000, includes use of recording studio and 1 engineer for up to 10 hours, additional time at $100 per hour
This is our most popular and versatile package. It offers the client and engineer a great deal more control over the recording. While still recording straight to CD the engineer will utilize the multi-track capabilities of our studio to create a great sounding product. Using multiple microphones placed on all the instruments, Symphony Space can record the performance in such a way that is usually not possible without going to a dedicated recording facility. The engineer will attend the rehearsal on the day of show to get the correct balance needed for a broadcast quality recording and will record the performance.
Post Performance the client will receive the following
- Master CD-r containing the evenings performance
- USB flash drive containing High Definition digital files
- OPTION to purchase Hard drive containing multi-track files for later mix down
Class 3 - Multi-Track recording with post performance mix-down - $1500, includes use of recording studio and 1 engineer for up to 10 hours, additional time at $100 per hour
Symphony Space offers the client the best opportunity to record their concert by a professional engineer, in a professional environment, to professional standards. This package provides the client with a master CD that can be used to release a commercial record of a performance. Our engineers will attend the rehearsal on the day of the performance and use multiple mics on individual instruments, as well as in the hall, to accurately capture the essence of the performance. All tracks will be recorded individually on the night of the performance and then a separate mix-down phase will occur in the days following that the client is welcome to participate in. Necessary edits to the material will be made along with a proper mixing session to ensure the client gets the best recording of their performance possible.
Post Performance the client will receive the following
- CD-r containing the evenings performance
- USB flash drive containing High Definition digital files
- Hard drive containing multi-track files for archival purposes
