Thalia Kids' Book Club: Lincoln Peirce's Big Nate Series

The Performance

The cartoonist and bestselling author of the Big Nate books gives a behind-the-scenes look at his funny and clever middle-grade series, and comic strip (published in over 250 newspapers), that follows a spunky self-described genius on an unforgettable trail through the sixth grade in a comic book-style diary.  Ages 8 – 12.

About the Artists

Lincoln Peirce is a cartoonist/writer and the creator of the comic strip Big Nate. The strip appears in more than two hundred U.S. newspapers and online daily at comics.com. Born in Iowa, Peirce grew up in New Hampshire and began creating his own comic strips in the sixth grade. Before becoming a professional cartoonist Peirce taught art and coached baseball at an all-boy New York City High School. Big Nate: In a Class By Himself was featured on Good Morning America’s Summer Reading: The Best Books For Your Kids list. The New York Times’ bestselling book collection includes Big Nate: In a Class by Himself, I Smell a Pop Quiz, Add More Babies!, and others. Big Nate Boredom Buster: Super Scribbles, Cool Comix, and Lots of Laughs was just released this month. The next book in the series Big Nate on a Roll will be released this August.

Matthew Cody is the author of the superhero mystery Powerless, available now from Knopf Childrens’ Books, as well as the steampunk adventure, The Dead Gentleman, which will be released in November. Matthew lives with his wife and young son in New York, where he’s at work on a sequel to Powerless. You can visit him on the web at matthewcody.com.
