About the Artists

Brian Jacques was born in Liverpool, England, where he resides to this day. He worked as a longshoreman, a long distance truck driver, a bus driver, a boxer, a bobby (policeman) and a stand-up comic before he began his writing career in earnest as a playwright. Jacques was working as a truck driver, delivering milk to the Royal Wavertree School for the Blind in Liverpool, when he began volunteering some of his time to read to the students. The storytelling activity gave him story ideas of his own, and the Redwall series began to take shape. Today, there are over 15 million copies of Redwall in print world-wide. Jacques has become a well-known radio personality, hosting his own Sunday afternoon radio show, Jakestown, on BBC Radio Merseyside. He enjoys walking his dog, Teddy (a white West Highland Terrier), completing crossword puzzles and cooking (particularly Italian) for the weekly family dinner. A New York Times best selling author, Jacques was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Liverpool in Great Britain in 2005.

Jon Scieszka grew up with five brothers. He taught elementary school for ten years, raised a daughter and son and has written books for kids for the last 15 years. All of these things inspired him to start the Guys Read program to help boys read, for which he edited the anthology Guys Write for Guys Read (www.guysread.com). He is the award-winning author of many books, including Math Curse, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, Science Verse and the Time Warp Trio series, the most recent of which is Marco? Polo!. His newest books are Cowboy & Octopus and Jon Scieszka's Trucktown series, which comes out in January.
