Madeline Cohen has been Symphony Space’s Education Director since 1989. She directs the Curriculum Arts Project (CAP) Program, which gives thousands of students insight into the social studies curriculum through interaction with the arts and artists in the classroom, at museums and at Peter Norton Symphony Space. She co-organizes Symphony Space’s All Write! program for adult literacy students modeled after Symphony Space’s signature literary series, Selected Shorts: A Celebration of the Short Story, and is the co-director of the Thalia Kids Book Club Camp and director of the Global Arts Camp.
Marla Frazee is the illustrator of the Clementine books, and is currently working on the fifth in the series. She received two back-to-back Caldecott Award-honors for All the World by Elizabeth Garton Scanlon and A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever, which she also wrote. She is the author/illustrator of Walk On!; Santa Claus: the World’s Number One Toy Expert; and Roller Coaster. She has worked with numerous authors to create illustrations for many memorable books including Ann Hoberman’s The Seven Silly Eaters; Mem Fox’s Harriet, You’ll Drive Me Wild!; Susan Meyer’s Everywhere Babies, among others. Marla works in a small backyard cabin under an avocado tree in Pasadena, California.
Sara Pennypacker was a painter before becoming a writer, and has two absolutely fabulous children who are now grown. She is the author of the bestselling Clementine series which includes Clementine, Friend of the Week, illustrated by Marla Frazee. She is also the author of several other books for young readers including Stuart’s Cape and Stuart Goes to School, both illustrated by Martin Matje; and Sparrow Girl, illustrated by Yoko Tanaka. Her book Pierre in Love received the Golden Kite Award. Recently, Pennypacker penned new adventures for the beloved Flat Stanley series created by Jeff Brown. Sara lives on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
