This program was recorded 05/08/2013 at Symphony Space.

Leah Maddrie, Symphony Space's own Associate Director of Development for Institutional Giving and writer of the play Chasing Heaven (an excerpt of which will be performed at Wall to Wall Harlem Resonance on May 11th), joins Symphony Space audio intern Daniel Pecoraro to talk about the play, Harlem, and the artistic process.

+ About the Artists

Leah Maddrie’s play Chasing Heaven was a 2008 O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference semi-finalist, received a reading in the Shadow reading series at La MaMa and a 2011 production at New York’s Metropolitan Playhouse under the direction of George Ferencz; and was featured in the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival. Leah is a 2013 Bronx Council on the Arts Literary Arts award honoree. She received a commission from the Sloan Foundation Project at Ensemble Studio Theatre(EST) for her play Dark Energy Stuns Universe, which debuted in a staged reading in EST’s First Light Festival in April 2010. Leah performed her comic monologues Dating Santa and Singing Cleveland in the Red Harlem Readers Sunday series in February 2010. Her lyrics to the song Fallingwater from the song cycle Monongahela Rising (with composer Waddy Thompson) were selected as one of five finalists for the WNYC Soundcheck lyric contest in 2008, and Monongahela Rising debuted at Symphony Space in the Composers Now festival in 2010. As an actor, Leah worked coast to coast, from the New York Shakespeare Festival to the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.

Daniel Pecoraro is the audio intern at Symphony Space and the producer and host of the trivia quiz show The Thursday Trivia Podcast and the audio documentary series infinitespace.
