Michael Buckley was born in Akron, Ohio. Prior to his success in the children’s writing profession, he held many odd jobs including professional stand-up comic, lead singer of a punk rock band, pasta maker and intern at the Late Show with David Letterman. He moved to New York in 1996 and worked in television, developing programming for Discovery Channel, TLC, MTV, MTV Animation and Rugrats producers Klasky Csupo. He is the author of the best-selling NERDS and The Sisters Grimm book series. The Cheerleaders of Doom, the latest from the NERDS series, was released in 2011. The idea for the Sisters Grimm books came to him while he was looking through a collection of Grimm fairy tales. He read books by Grimm, Anderson, Lang and Baum, as well as alternate versions of stories from different cultures. The most recent books from The Sisters Grimm series are Tales from the Hood, The Everafter War, The Inside Story and the last in the series The Council of Mirrors which was released this month. Recently, Buckley and his writing partner, Joe Deasy, created an animated series for Cartoon Network called Robotomy which ran between 2010 and 2011. The next NERDS book comes out in September.
Children’s author Matthew Cody was born in St. Louis, Missouri. His first novel, Powerless, was published in 2009. Powerless was chosen as a New Voices Pick by The Association of Booksellers for Children.. It was nominated for the 2010 Best Books for Young Adults list by the Young Adult Library Services Association and won the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader’s Book Award for 2012. Powerless was also recently nominated for the 2013 Connecticut Nutmeg Book Award. His second novel, The Dead Gentleman, released in 2011, was an Amazon Best Book of the Month and An American Booksellers Association Indie Next List Selection. The sequel to Powerless, Super, will be released in bookstores in September of this year. As a comic book enthusiast, Cody can be found nearly every Wednesday in a comic book store as that is the day the new comics come out.
