The Performance

Hailed by the New York Times as "a rising star in the world of children's music," and the Chicago Tribune as "among the kid-rock royalty," Justin Roberts' vocal style has been compared to James Taylor, Elvis Costello, Loudon Wainwright III , and even Green Day! With clever, funny songs dealing with important issues a young child might face (the horrors of school picture day, making friends with the monster under the bed) Roberts' lyrics are rich with sharp, comedic insight that make his shows a Symphony Space favorite year after year.

"Comic and soulful songs with creative, unique twists and turns that parents will enjoy as much as children." - LA Times

"Pure Fun" - Entertainment Weekly

"The Paul McCartney of Kids Music." - USA Today

"Some of the most inspired and intelligent kids lyrics ever." - Amazon.com

About the Artists

Justin Roberts has been compared to Buddy Holly, Nick Lowe and Weezer. Millions have seen him on The Today Show and Nick Jr., and one of his songs was featured on a World Series broadcast. Find out today why he’s known as the “hardest working man in children’s show business,” as Justin and the Not Ready for Naptime Players return to Symphony Space to perform new tunes and old favorites.

Justin's two most recent CDs, Meltdown and Pop Fly, both won national awards and critical acclaim. Pop Fly was selected as one of the top children’s music releases of 2008 by USA Today, Amazon.com, NPR Music and the annual Fids and Kamily Poll. A former Montessori preschool teacher, Justin clearly remembers what it was like to be a kid – and his high energy pop rock sound will get everyone in the family on their feet.

Justin also performs new songs from his forthcoming family music CD, Jungle Gym, due to be released on June 8. Each original song on Jungle Gym ascends through the collective memories of childhood: from the joys of trick or treating and sleepovers to the magic stillness of snow days and gym class parachutes. The recording takes listeners on a journey through those iconic experiences that kids will relate to and parents will remember. It's an often funny and unexpectedly rocking ride: from magic moments sailing on a moonlit cardboard box, through the temporary traumas of getting lost, to the anticipation and wonder of a school fire drill. Giant pounding drums, vintage electric guitars, strange and fanciful time changes, soaring vocals and elegant french horns yearn toward the conquering heights of the jungle gym
