The Gustafer Yellowgold Show 2010
Created by singer/songwriter Morgan Taylor, minimally animated illustrations of Gustafer Yellowgold and his friends are accompanied by Taylor's catchy original story-songs for a truly remarkable and memorable multimedia experience.
"...a cross between ‘Yellow Submarine' and Dr. Seuss, filtered through the lens of the Lower East Side." -Time Out New York Kids
Gustafer Yellowgold is a friendly creature who came to Earth from the sun and has an unusual magnetism for making friends with some of Earth’s odder creatures. His best friend is Forrest Applecrumbie the flightless Pterodactyl. Gustafer and Forrest built a small cottage-style home on the edge of an uncharted wooded area in Minnesota. He has a pet Eel named Slim (short for Slimothy) and a pet Dragon named Asparagus who lives in his fireplace and loves corn on the cob. These are just a few of the many friends who make up his world.
Gustafer Yellowgold concerts are a unique blend of live music and moving images. The minimally-animated illustrations that play on screen are accompanied by illustrator/songwriter Morgan Taylor’s catchy and original story-songs, for a truly different multimedia experience. Since his creation in 2005, Gustafer Yellowgold has become an international phenomenon, acclaimed by The New York Times as “A cross between Yellow Submarine and Dr. Seuss.”
Entertainment Weekly described the music as being filled with “…The most infectious original songs. It’s like tapping into some pleasure center in the brain—both adult and kid…absurdly appealing. Grade: A.” New York Magazine named Morgan Taylor “Best Kids’ Performer” in a recent “Best of New York” issue; and “Mint Green Bee” from Gustafer Yellowgold’s Wide Wild World was a Grand Prize Winner in the Children’s Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
With its unique crossover appeal, the show has been the wild-card opening act for Wilco and The Polyphonic Spree. Gustafer made his off-Broadway debut at the DR2 Theatre in 2008 with Gustafer Yellowgold’s Mellow Sensation, and has toured nationally to arts centers, children’s museums, schools, libraries, cinemas, theaters and music venues, with additional performances in the U.K and even Korea!
Taylor’s other projects have included playing bass for The Autumn Defense (featuring John Stirratt and Pat Sansone from Wilco) and a recording project with Tony Award-winning songwriter Duncan Sheik.
