Selected Shorts: Holiday Tales
Selected Shorts returns to Berkeley Rep with a program of hilarious and cozy holiday tales, performed by Tony and Emmy nominee Kate Burton (The Good Wife, Scandal), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos, Girls), multiple award-winner Linda Lavin (Other Desert Cities, The Lyons), and Tony Award winner Rene Auberjonois (Boston Legal, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine).
The readings include Ron Carlson's "The H Street Sledding Record" which sends us flying through a family's unusual Christmas traditions, the passionate romantic tale, "Violets" by Edna O'Brien, Thomas Beller's (How to be a Man) "Live Wires" about a lovesick young man's thrilling revelations at his mother's New York upper west side Hanukkah party, Irish master Frank O'Connor's moving and funny gem "Christmas Morning" a tale of a young boy's view of his family's holiday celebration, John Cheever's hilarious "Christmas is a Sad Season for the Poor," about a high-rise elevator operator overwhelmed by his riders' generosity, and David Schickler's wildly wacky story of a book club at holiday time, "Jamaica."This event is produced by Berkeley Rep in association with Jonathan Reinis Productions.
