Marketed since 1964, this great Bordeaux wine is powerful and elegant and pairs well with roasted or grilled meats, poultry and cheeses. This wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks after the grapes were carefully selected to avoid taste interference and to promote fermentation of high quality.
Merlot is a darkly blue-colored grape used as a blending grape and for varietals. “Merle” is the French word for blackbird, with “merlot” its diminutive ─ young blackbird ─ and it is believed that the color of the grape is the source for the wine’s nomenclature. Merlot is one of the primary grapes in Bordeaux wines, along with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Merlot-based wines are generally medium body, offering up hints of currant, berry and plum. It is often blended with the heartier Cabernet Sauvignon. These two popular grapes – merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon – are among the two most-plentiful varieties, with 1,300,000 acres grown across the globe.
