Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space
The Thalia Film Club
The Fall Thalia Film Club pulled at the hearstrings of even the staunchest film buff with stories of drama (California Solo), love (Hitchcock), redemption (Price Check), hope (Any Day Now), and reflection (How to Survive a Plague). Guests included: actors Alexia Rasmussen, John Magaro, Alan Cumming, Parker Posey and Bella Heathcote; directors David France,David Chase and Travis Fine; film critic Rex Reed and more. Film critic and host Marshall Fine is back for the Winter Series with five more cinematic gems. Don't miss the Winter Series of the Thalia Film Club. You never know what film or guest you'll see in advance, but the experience is always captivating.
Fine has created successful film clubs at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY, and the Emelin Theater in Mamaroneck, NY, and is a popular guest host at other film clubs in New York and the area. His previous guests at other film clubs range from directors such as Guillermo del Toro, Robert Towne and Barry Levinson to actors such as Penelope Cruz, Kevin Costner, Paul Giamatti and Clive Owen. Films have ranged from the moving Best Foreign Film winning drama Departures and Peter Jackson's adaptation of the best-selling novel The Lovely Bones, to the comedy Me and Orson Welles and Pedro Almodovar's latest offering, Broken Embraces.
"For me, one of the true joys of movie-going is seeing a film I know nothing about and discovering a gem," Fine says. "In these media-saturated times, people usually have the opposite experience: They go in knowing so much in advance that the movie itself can be a letdown. I love giving audiences that sensation of discovery - as well as the experience of seeing a film they might not normally have chosen for themselves and being blown away by it."
