This concert of deeply meditative and contemplative dhrupad music, the oldest form of music from North India, features the young master vocalist Wasifuddin Dagar. Representing the 20th unbroken generation of dhrupad singers in the esteemed Dagar family, Wasifuddin is the nephew of N. Zahiruddin Dagar and the son of N. Faiyazuddin Dagar, the late legendary Dagar Brothers. Since the death of his uncle in 1994, he is carrying on the Dagarvani tradition in solo. Accompaniment on pakhawaj (double-headed drum).
"The music looked inward, making an offering of all the resources of the human voice." New York Times
