James McBride is a writer, composer and saxophonist. A former staff writer at publications including The Boston Globe, People, and The Washington Post, he is author of the novel Miracle at St. Anna and the memoir The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother. He is the 1993 recipient of the American Music Theater Festival's Stephen Sondheim Award for his work on the musical Bobos. He has written songs for Anita Baker and Gary Burton, among others, and often tours with jazz vocalist Jimmy Scott.
