Art and Nature, Nature and Mankind, Body and Spirit, We and They — all are related, one to the other. In Native American cultures a common spiritual thread, known in the Lakota language as mitakuye oyasin or “we are all related”, connects all aspects of Life. Through storytelling, myths and ceremonies of music and dance, the lessons of mitakuye oyasin and other Native American cultural traditions are passed down from the elders, preserving values, customs and beliefs for younger generations.

The following Lesson Plan explores one particular Native American myth as it relates to Nature's unique way of sharing its knowledge and power with humans.
