Find out how the CAP web site provides expanded resources for teaching and learning social studies.

Explore visiting and performance artists' work and background.

In African cultures, “Art” — whether it be music, dance, sculpture, carving or painting — is not a concept divorced from daily life. Cultural history is preserved in artistic expression, as much in everyday objects and activities as in ceremonial ones. Visual arts, music, language, movement and ritual, together communicate and perpetuate cultural traditions and belief systems.

The Lesson Plans in this category use traditional African art objects and folk tales to stimulate a deeper understanding of African culture through both research and creative projects.
