We can only squeeze 800 people into the big theatre, and 150 people into the little one. And not everyone can be in New York and available on the exact day that their favorite artist is performing. So what to do for all those poor souls left out in the cold? Bring it to the people with Symphony Space Live!
Of course, we’ve been doing this for years with Selected Shorts. After the performances at Symphony Space, we post-produce programs for radio, podcast, CDs, digital downloads, and take the show on tour all over the country. One thing everyone has always loved about Selected Shorts recordings is the feeling of being there in the theatre – you can hear the audience’s sighs, laughter, tension from suspense, and relief at the end. Could we do the same for our other programs?
Yes, of course! Did you miss Wall to Wall Opera? No problem, you can hear it now. Do your kids adore Gustafer Yellowgold? We’ve got him (and he’s coming back on November 1 for the Super Duper Just Kidding Extravaganza!). Have you heard about Isaiah’s incomparable political cabaret series, The Thalia Follies? Well, you can now hear for yourself such gems as “Miserias Economicas” and “Where Has All the Money Gone.”
And now, for the first time ever, you’ll be able to listen to the actual Selected Shorts performance, as it happened LIVE, including Isaiah’s intermission sing-alongs, quizzes, and other charms. And since Symphony Space Live is online, we can bring you performances that would never make it to the radio for FCC reasons.
Symphony Space presents more than 600 performances and screenings per year — we can’t promise all of those will be on Symphony Space Live, but there will be plenty! We’re launching with 30 programs, and new ones will be added every week.
