I will always remember that my Symphony Space adventure began on a monumental day: Inauguration Day! Just two weeks earlier I had accepted the open slot for a marketing internship and knew I was in for a long haul considering I lived two hours North-West in a rural farm town called Warwick. That day, my alarm sounded at 5:45 am, I boarded the bus at 6:30 am and two hours later joined a sea of enthusiastic Upper West Siders flooding into the Symphony Space lobby. As a responsible intern would do, I had researched Symphony Space through their website well ahead of time and knew that they were offering a free televised broadcast of the Inauguration ceremony in their main theatre. Needless to say, the event was a smash hit leaving everyone in the best of spirits. Somewhere between the post-ceremony events and the throngs of giddy New Yorkers stuffing donations boxes with Washingtons, Lincolns (because Lincoln was appropriate for the occasion), and even Jacksons, I finally made my way up to the Marketing suite where the real work began.
From that point on, I have felt extremely privileged to be a small part of the Symphony Space operation. From weekly field trips with the rest of the intern crew, taking part in Symphony Space’s magnificent Wall to Wall Broadway music marathon, to simply participating in marketing meetings, I have come to the definitive conclusion that this internship is the Top! (And I consider myself a seasoned intern, as I have held about five internships since my high school days).
Though my internship will come to a close tomorrow, I feel extremely grateful to have been offered such a rewarding and educational experience. It is one I hope to build on in the years to come. I’ll miss promoting our wonderful events, Friday afternoon dance parties in the Marketing suite, French Toast Fridays at the diner across the way, and much more, but I am also eager to see what new adventures lie ahead. This certainly will be a hard act to follow…

You will be missed over the summer!
I know I speak for entire Marketing Department when I say, Kristin Rules! We loved having you on the team and will miss you dearly this summer. Don’t be a stranger…you know where to find us
ahhhh French Toast Fridays. I believe that may be my greatest lasting legacy at Symphony Space.
This year’s Bloomsday theme: No, I said no.
I think it’s a real sign of the times that there is no radio station broadcasting the Bloomsday reading, and that Sym-Phoney Space is not providing a live webcast for those of us who cannot afford the tickets in these hard times. My worst assumptions: the bottom line wins again. Congratulations.
Oh, I said Oh. It’s on WBAI at 7pm. Well….you should’ve advertised it! Don’t mess with my Bloomsday.
It is indeed a sad sign of the times. No radio station could find it in their budget to carry the show, and we didn’t have room in ours to webcast it either. It’s truly unfortunate when funding takes such a severe hit. We’re all doing our best to conserve where we can and hope for a return glory days in the near future.
To be clear, the WBAI Bloomsday is not the Symphony Space production, but another reading recorded specifically for WBAI.
